The phrase’ phygital learning’ combines the words’ physical’ and ‘digital’ to denote incorporating physical and digital components into learning. Utilizing technology to improve the conventional learning experience enables students to study in a more engaging and participatory way. Gamification, on the other hand, is the use of game design in situations that are not game-related. When used in education, it entails integrating game-like components like points, tags, and boards to motivate and engage students in their academic work. “Phygital learning combines the advantages of traditional classroom education with the practicality and adaptability of digital learning to provide students the opportunity to learn in an immersive and engaging manner. Newer developments like Web 3.0 and Metaverse are hailed as the next significant innovations in phygital learning. Vineet Gupta, the founder of Plaksha University in Mohali, Punjab, says, “Plaksha intends to incorporate these technologies into their curriculum to improve the student experience and prepare them for the future. There is a lack of curriculum development in the country related to such cutting-edge innovations; therefore, new graduates entering the workforce have rudimentary knowledge.”

We can design teachable moments that are more compelling and motivational for students while also better equipping them by utilizing technology to tackle the problems of the 21st century. The phygital paradigm blends weekly or biweekly in-person instructive sessions with virtual learning courses. The government’s strategy to establish a digital higher education that would serve all students nationwide and offer personalized education straight to their doorstep should be recognized as a turning point in Indian education. By combining digital and traditional means, India’s gross enrollment ratio in higher education may be doubled.
