His passion for AI, robotics, and swarm computing has been a driving force in his career. Based on his experiment, he has designed workshops for engineering students and studied topics like self-organizing and autonomous systems in depth.

Let us learn more about his journey:

A Lifelong Passion for Technology and Innovation

Yunis Ahmad Lone, a firm believer that his honesty, diligence, and thoughtful effort led to success, has been fascinated by electronics and computer science since his childhood. Growing up in the Srinagar valley, he was exposed to his father Audel’s Electrical Engineering handbooks, which sparked his interest in the field.

In the seventh standard, he was already making circuits with an IC 555 and transistors or resistors and simulating a bouncing ball on an Attari 800 using basic programming and graphics.

He pursued a Bachelor’s degree at BITS Pilani in 1994 and a Master’s degree in 1996. During his studies, he worked on projects involving the use of neural networks for traffic optimization and genetic algorithms for engineering optimization, which further solidified his passion for innovation and problem-solving.

Managexe: Emerging Technologies Through Expertise and Collaboration in Management Consulting

Managexe is a company that has been in existence for the past 7 years. Primarily in Management Consultancy and Emerging technologies. The firm has not scaled much in terms of numbers, but keeping the administrative overhead to the minimum, they have used their network to tap into a quantum of work that is complex and requires deep insight into systems design skills.

The CEO provides management oversight for complex projects and programs of niche clientele that they hold and nurture. He liaises with 4-5 different clients with specific technical needs.

Managexe is essentially based on the tenets of the honorable Dr. G.P. Sharma, as detailed on the website. It is his principles and mindset towards education, knowledge, and work that we follow.

Passion to Drive Changes in the IT Industry

Since the beginning, he knew it had to be IT, and he had no doubt. His fascination with higher mathematics and physics grew exponentially in high school. In the 11th standard, he had already started comprehending higher engineering mathematics.

Further, he honed his mathematics skills in his Masters, studying subjects like the Theory of Plates and Shells and Finite Element Analysis. Though his mind was oriented more towards research-oriented work, he looked at it from a holistic perspective and entered the realm of solving business problems in real life.

Yunis’ career has spanned various roles and organizations, including TCS, HCL Tech, Fidelity Investments, IBM, Deloitte, and Tech Mahindra. He has been instrumental in driving complex transformation efforts in the banking and financial services sectors, implementing cutting-edge technologies like expert systems, electronic shelf labeling, and AI-powered audit products.

As the CTO of a group of companies earlier in Hyderabad and Delhi, he has been responsible for incubating AI cells, training new talent on evolving technologies, and providing strategic leadership to the organization’s various functions, including sales, operations, and delivery.

His ability to bridge the gap between business and technology has been a key driver of Managexe’s success.

Contributions in the field of AI and ML

At TCD, he was working on a multi-modal analysis of human behavior and expressions using paradigms of facial expression, speech, body language, and text. He synchronized the time series from speech with a time series created from action units from facial expressions and body language like head sways.

From the speeches of celebrities and leaders, he figured out precisely when the subject was creating a deceptive premise or stating something that might not be true in totality.

Sharing Expertise as an AI/ML Author through Published Works

He had an inherent desire to write more than he had. However, due to a consistent run and lack of time, he has yet to be able to do so. There were three efforts he had started on

  1. Neuro-Fuzzy Inference
  2. Chaos Theory and Applications
  3. Advanced Reinforcement Learning

In the book that has already been published, the contents have been simplified exponentially in comparison to other books on the same topic available on the market. It was his inherent desire to simplify complex mathematical fundamentals and increase the explainability of the beauty of mathematics.

Maintaining Expertise in Diverse Fields Throughout the Career

AI has been his passion since his college days, when he delved into research using MATLAB, Mathcad, Mathematica, and SIMULINK. As a civil engineering postgraduate, he was drawn to higher engineering concepts like control systems, optimization, operations research, numerical analysis, and differential equations, which form the foundation for understanding AI and robotics.

His endeavors on swarm optimization and genetic algorithms date back over a decade, and he has been interfacing with Lego Mindstorms EV3, NXT, and RCX for in-house projects on MATLAB and LabVIEW.

His postgraduate diploma in AI from IIIT Hyderabad and doctoral studies at TCD have further honed his skills and enabled him to work independently on complex problems.

Navigating the Challenges of the IT Industry

He has faced a myriad of challenges throughout his career, including attrition, changing client requirements, company closures, leadership changes, budget constraints, dynamic technical stack needs, and the need for rapid reskilling. However, he has developed a mantra to overcome these obstacles: use your experience and knowledge to the best of your ability, get a good night’s sleep, and start anew each day.

When it comes to staying up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in AI and ML, Yunis emphasizes the importance of having a strong conceptual foundation and an insatiable curiosity. He notes that the field is rapidly evolving, with new techniques like Kolgomorov Arnold Networks and the use of game theory and chaos algorithms emerging. Yunis encourages aspiring professionals to read, explore, and assimilate new knowledge continuously, as a static learner will eventually become obsolete.

Embracing the Evolving Landscape of AI and ML

Yunis emphasizes that most professionals have the relevant background to understand and work on emerging technologies. However, it is the level of interest and fundamental conceptual clarity that define one’s depth of knowledge and success in this dynamic field.

He notes that the days of multilayer perceptrons and gradient descent are numbered, as the industry is transitioning to new techniques like Kolgomorov Arnold Networks, which have activation functions on the edge rather than on every node. This shift is poised to transform the entire programming landscape, introducing new concepts such as chaotic time series and algorithms to tame chaos.

Furthermore, Yunis highlights the advancements in the use of game theory, Nash equilibria, neuro-fuzzy systems, and reinforcement learning, which can increase the accuracy of predictive models. He encourages aspiring professionals to read, explore, and assimilate these new developments, as a static learner will eventually become obsolete.

Vision for Making Meaningful Impact in the IT Industry

Yunis aspires to establish his setup, working independently on complex business and research-oriented problem sets. He envisions a clientele that trusts him and his team and is satisfied with their deliverables in terms of quality, timeliness, and cost management. He describes “Utopic and Euphoric” expectations as the ultimate goal he strives for, along with achieving financial independence.

However, he acknowledges that sustaining and thriving in the competitive IT industry, dominated by “giants and big fish,” is a challenging aspiration in itself. He believes that the key to success lies in fostering a collaborative and empathetic ecosystem, where everyone can be catered to without the need for cutthroat competition.

He believes that one can be successful on their own merits, without the need to undermine or pull down their co-workers. He is open to defending his perspective, which he acknowledges may not be a universal truth. However, his vision of a collaborative, empathetic IT ecosystem serves as an inspiring model for aspiring professionals and industry leaders alike.
