World’s Largest EV Battery Factory to be Built by Panasonic in Kansas

Panasonic has signed a $4 billion investment agreement with Kansas to build and run the world’s largest battery cell production facility. The company has already picked out a location in a disused ammunition plant close to the city of De Soto.

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly said, “As the largest private investment in Kansas history and one of the largest EV battery manufacturing plants of its kind in the country, this project will be transformative for our state’s economy, Panasonic providing in total 8,000 high-quality jobs that will help more Kansans create better lives for themselves and their children,”

The factory will be producing high-capacity cells for Tesla, which has a high requirement for EV batteries due to the increasing scope of electric vehicles in the country. The move also boosts the area’s economy and is the first step to build an electric ecosystem in the region.
