Traditional vs. mobile method of placing orders. Pros and cons of both solutions

Difficult times and market requirements. How are the gastronomic facilities coping with the epidemic?

The epidemiological situation in Poland has affected many aspects of our everyday life. Social contacts, the activity of cultural institutions or stores, as well as the rules of organizing sports or entertainment events have been limited. However, gastronomy became one of the most affected sectors – basically from the very beginning of the epidemic gastronomic facilities had to suspend their activities. In some cases, unfortunately, this meant the closure of the business, as the lack of customers and the possibility of carrying out orders was the proverbial nail in the coffin. Even various forms of support or later easing of restrictions did not help.

However, some of the restaurants decided to adapt to the prevailing conditions and change the form of their activity, at the same time adjusting to the modern market demand. The idea is to launch a mobile form of ordering meals, which in the context of not being able to move around freely outside the house or enter the restaurants, proved to be the most effective way to survive the difficult times. Some companies have chosen Ordering Stack software, others have decided to use the offer of popular portals offering the possibility to order food on a mass scale, while others have opted for standalone, separate systems.

Traditional method of food ordering – pros and cons

An undeniable advantage of the traditional form of placing orders in restaurants is the possibility to precisely match the ordered food to your own taste. Are you not tolerating salt and want to avoid it? Do you prefer well-done meat? Or maybe you don’t like cinnamon very much? All of this information can be passed on to the waiter in a very simple way. What’s more, the person accepting the order can provide details of all the ingredients and combinations found in a given dish. Among the advantages of such a method of ordering is also the possibility to view the food – simply by peeking at the plates of people sitting at other tables to find out what the dish we want to order will look like.

When it comes to the drawbacks of such a form of ordering meals, one of them is usually the limited time that can be devoted to thinking about the order. When entering a restaurant, it is difficult to expect to be able to sit at the table for at least an hour before deciding on a particular item from the menu. Additionally, sometimes we are not able to obtain information about the price of a given dish – although it happens rarely, usually in reputable and prestigious restaurants, sometimes the owners of the establishments do not include such information in the menu.

Mobile method of food ordering – pros and cons

The list of advantages for mobile food ordering is extremely long. It is enough to mention that we have almost unlimited time in the context of thinking about a given dish (of course it ends when the establishment is closed). What’s more, the restaurants usually post photos of given meals on their websites. In many cases this is a key factor in choosing a given food. A big advantage is also the possibility of free “manipulation” of the ingredients, i.e. removing or adding additional cheese or even sauces. This possibility is usually offered by companies using Ordering Stack software.

There are not many disadvantages of the mobile form of ordering food. One could mention, for example, the need to wait longer for a meal, because of the distance the deliverer has to travel, or the fear that the food will not be as fresh or warm as when ordering in the restaurant. For some people it is also a disadvantage to have too much choice of meals – when you enter the website of a given restaurant, you usually see all the items in the menu, which can indeed cause indecisiveness. Anyway, the list of drawbacks should not be an indication for people who wonder if the mobile form of ordering food is for them.
