Three years is a significant length of time when it comes to the digital age. At the rapid pace at which technology evolves, it can be considered a lifetime. There have been numerous useful and innovative tools released since I released the first edition of Think #Digital First.
If you’ve got your hands on the first edition of Think #Digital First, you likely know well enough that chapter 5 delves into the various tools that can help your business grow on the Internet. In that chapter alone, I shared more than 50 different tools with a comprehensive overview of how I leverage each unique tool. The 2nd edition of the book is no different in this regard, apart from having added tools.
While updating this chapter, I realized that as many as one-quarter of the tools I used in the first edition were no longer the ones I used anymore. This was due to the tools being outdated or beaten by a competitor. Some tools weren’t even around any longer.
I also noticed that the chapter needed to have a clearly defined structure. I ended up making the chapter much better by breaking things down.
I didn’t want to give too much about the tools in this, but I did want to go over some of the key categories that I cover in the newer edition to help with your digital transformation.
1. Research and Listening
One of the most important things you need to do when you are looking to grow your business online is to be able to research both your customers and your competition. You can do this by listening to your customers and their respective pain points. By doing this, you can work towards solving that pain. Without asking your customers about their pain points and listening to them, you won’t know whether or not your product or service solves an existing problem they have.
In this book, you will learn about seven different research and listening tools that I use to craft the content to share with my target market. These are also the tools that I use to effectively analyze my market and to learn some of the trends.
2. Design
2017 is a year where video marketing and other types of visual marketing truly took off. As many as 37 percent of marketers noted that visual marketing was one of the most important elements of their business. It was listed as the second most important to their businesses, with only blogging ahead of it.
This is easy to see as people are only likely to remember a small 10 percent of the information they hear just three days after. With visual marketing, you can increase this percentage by a staggering 55% over the same three days.
There are many different ways to connect with your target market through visual marketing with GIFs and even live-streaming. In the book, you’ll learn about eight different design tools that I leverage to boost my visual marketing efforts.
3. Marketing
There are so many different tools in the marketplace that you can use to effectively market your business. Building out your digital presence is one of the most important things you can do for your business, and there are a variety of tools that can help you do it.
There are as many as 17 tools covered in the marketing section. These tools cover email marketing, social media marketing, blogging, and even running contests.
4. Business
Boosting business and achieving business growth is something that I have specialized in over the last decade. Throughout this time, I’ve managed to come across many different tools that you can leverage within your business for improved growth.
Throughout the business section, you will learn about tools that can help you;
- Better delegate in your business
- Achieve better focus
- Reach your goals
- Enhance your time management
- Build websites
- Accept online payments
- Optimize your site
5. Search Engine Optimization
This is something that I go over thoroughly within chapter 2 of the book. However, there are so many different tools that I go through within this section too. These tools can help you analyze your site, competition and effectively integrate successful SEO strategies into your marketing mix. You’ll find tools that can help with keyword research and more.
6. Data
The last section in chapter 5 focuses all on data.
One of the most important things that you must do to see if your marketing efforts are working is to measure the data. You need to use data to figure out if your strategies are effective and what needs to be done to boost their effectiveness. Without having access to critical data for your business, you won’t be able to tell what’s working and what’s not working. You will learn about the best tools to gather and analyze data to maximize your digital marketing efforts.
