Always jumping all the Hurdles
The founding principle behind Binary Tree was to provide organizations around the globe with the most direct and predictable path to a successful technology transformation. Their biggest challenge and the opportunity were to expand internationally, as companies around the world need their products and services. So they needed to be strategic in deciding which regions and countries to invest in and expand to. At first, Binary Tree started small, without creating a physical office. This meant they had to bring on people who could not only become subject matter experts in their niche offerings but also be self-sufficient entrepreneurs. A related challenge was just-in-time hiring approach. Being fiscally responsible, they couldn’t hire ahead of revenue, so they brought on more resources only as they needed them. This often caused stress on the organization, as the company had to quickly get new folks up to speed to deliver on a project. But they persevered through it, and now they’ve prospered thanks to their great teams in Europe and Asia Pacific.

Dreaming Big and Achieving High
“We’ve got big things on the horizon. Namely, we’re looking to start shepherding clients through the full lifecycle of their transformation. At a high level, there are three phases to any transformation—plan, move, and manage,” assures Steven. Over the past two decades, Binary Tree has become an expert in moving clients from one system to another. But the upfront planning phase and the managing phase that comes after are often similar if not larger in scope than the move itself. Steven says that we see a significant opportunity for our clients to lean on us to manage their transformations from end-to-end. So stay tuned for more offerings from us to help plan and manage your move, as well as broader capabilities to help with the move.
Steven’s Advice to the Young Entrepreneurs
Steven urges young entrepreneurs not to wait too long to bring in an experienced team to help deliver your vision. There are a million things to be done when you’re building a new business. But there’s no need to be a hero and shoulder multiple roles yourself. You can’t be the best at everything. So build a team you can trust and then rely on them to do their jobs. Also, don’t hesitate to make changes when needed. Fail fast on projects that aren’t delivering expected results. And quickly course correct with people or teams who aren’t exceeding expectations.
