Apple Inc. is planning to allow its customers to buy its products, including iPads, AirPods, and Macs over EMI via its Apple Card credit card. According to people, who are familiar with the plan, the California based technology giant is planning to roll out the service in coming weeks. The offering will help the customers to buy a product through Apple’s own credit card and split up the cost over several months with interest free payments. The payments will be managed through the Apple card section in the Wallet app on iPhone and charges will be added to the client’s monthly bill. However, this is not a new service offering from the tech giant, it started a similar program for iPhone last year, offering 24 months EMIs without any interest. This program is not very much different from those by carriers selling phones and various other products, offering consumers an easy way to purchase these items in a much easier manner. Also, the service is designed to increase the usage and spur enrolment for the Apple Card, which is a joint venture between Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Apple Inc. According to those who are familiar with the plan thinks, this will eventually boost the sales of Apple products by letting users split up the cost over the time. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple Inc. said on the company’s second-quarter earnings call in April that the company would eventually launch an instalment payment service for products beyond the iPhone. However, he didn’t specify timing or features of this instalment plan.
