Qantas Gives an Early Glance at the Game-changing Jumbo Jet A350

An ultra-long haul route is set to revolutionize travel for Australians. Dubbed ‘Project Sunrise,’ this ambitious route promises non-stop flights from Australia’s east coast to destinations like London and New York, lasting upwards of 20 hours.

This game-changing route, anticipated for years and delayed by the pandemic, is now closer to becoming a reality. Building on the success of Qantas’ Perth to Paris non-stop route, which complements their Perth to London and Perth to Rome flights, more details about the new ultra-long haul flights have been unveiled.

Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson revealed that the introduction of the Airbus A350 into the airline’s fleet will facilitate more direct point-to-point routes, reducing the need for traditional mid-flight layovers. “Project Sunrise is an A350 that will have four cabins: first class, business class, premium economy, and economy,” Hudson explained. “It will be able to fly directly from the east coast, so Sydney and Melbourne, to New York and London.”

Hudson emphasized that Qantas’ extensive experience with long haul travel will ensure a superior customer experience. “We know customers highly value point-to-point travel. Our success with routes like Perth to London and Perth to Rome gives us confidence that customers will appreciate this service.”

The first of these new aircraft is expected to arrive in 2026, slightly delayed due to certification requirements for the aircraft’s extra fuel tank. The popular Perth to London route has effectively served as a trial run for the upcoming Project Sunrise routes, receiving high levels of customer satisfaction and proving the demand for ultra-long haul travel.
