Clearview AI is closer than ever to get a US patent for its facial recognition technology. According to Politico, Clearview has received a “notice of allowance” from the US patent and Trademark Office. The company now only has to pay the required administration fees and the patent will be officially approved.
Clearview AI has built its facial recognition database by images of people across social media or the internet in general. With the application’s machine learning algorithm, the application can use the database to find and identify people.
According to Clearview AI, facial recognition technology was used by 2,400 police agencies to identify suspects last year. The company believes that this technology has helped many detectives to identify the suspects associated with various incidents, including the Capitol riots this January.
