Raspberry Pi was first launched exactly four years ago as an easy point-of-entry for budding programmers and can be plugged into a computer monitor or TV. Months after introducing just $5 Raspberry Pi Zero, Raspberry Pi Foundation has introduced its third major version of the Raspberry Pi, the successor of the Raspberry Pi 2 that was launched back in February last year.
The Raspberry Pi 3, is a microcomputer, has four USB ports, an HDMI port, a micro-USB plug for power, built-in wifi and Bluetooth, an SD card slot, an Ethernet port, a quad-core processor, an integrated graphics card and one gigabyte of RAM.
The Raspberry Pi 3 is launched, includes the third generation model features, Bluetooth 4.0, built-in WiFi support and a faster 1.2 GHz 64-bit quad-core ARMv8 processor. Raspberry Pi 3 is credit card-sized device, with no case or adornment, its circuits bare to manipulation and experimentation.
According to the Raspberry Pi Foundation CEO Eben Upton, “it’s been a year in the making. Gone is the 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU, replaced with a quad-core 64-bit 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A53 chip that is roughly 50 percent faster than its predecessor.”
“Our primary goal in moving to A53 from A7 was to get a better 32-bit core, A53 running in 32-bit mode outperforms A7 at the same clock speed by 20-30 percent.”
“It will also introduce a Raspberry Pi BCM2837-based Compute Module 3, an even smaller board designed for industrial applications, in the next few months. The Compute Module won’t include any WiFi connectivity, but will have the same 1.2GHz Cortex A53 processor and 1GB RAM as the Raspberry Pi 3.”
