The Pioneer in Smartphone innovation, Apple Inc. has recently announced that the latest software update will restrict other companies from collecting user information. The MacOS Mojave software update will discontinue social media related widgets on popular websites. Apple has coined this expanded tool as “intelligent tracking prevention”.
In the latest update, Apple will also introduce new tools to resolve Smartphone addiction. These new set of features include a do not disturb option during ‘Bad time’, allows users to set end time for DND and a no notifications option forunused apps,. Additionally, the update will also provide features such as screen time and Parental control. This, however will not reduce the functionality of the OS.
Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering at Apple, said “Apple will also increase data protections, requiring apps to get permission before they are able to use a computer’s camera and microphone or access someone’s mail history and database of messages.” Federighi also added “When you browse the web, your device can be identified by a unique set of characteristics like its configuration, fonts you have installed and plug-ins on the device. Data companies can use this to construct a unique fingerprint and track you from site to site. ”
It was recently mentioned by certain critics that apple devices are addictive in nature. Although with the initiative of digital welfare, the company is less likely to get affected by rising concerns of smartphone addictions. “We need to have tools and data to allow us to understand how we consume digital media,” Tony Fadell, a former senior Apple executive, said in an interview. “We need to get finer-grain language and start to understand that an iPhone is just a refrigerator, it’s not the addiction.”
